Midnight 's children and The Relunt Fundamentalist.

     Here are my views about both the movies ‘Midnight’s Children’ by Salman Rushdie Directed by Deepa Mehta.

                            

1) Midnight’s Children:-
                            
                      Midnight's Children novel written by Salman Rushdie and the movie is directed by Deepa Mehta. In this movie, we can see long narrative technique, story of three generations and political controversy and how situation changes within a time.

        So, first about the movie ‘Midnight’s Children’, the movie is about the two same aged boys named Saleem and Shiva. They both were born on a same day when India got freedom. To describe it very well it is said that “Pakistan and India born in washing each-other’s blood”. At that time there was a kind of revolt against Pakistan and India and that is why in the very beginning of the movie it is said that “You can’t prevent the birth of Pakistan.” At some extent in the movie the idea is about to make the rich poor and the poor rich. So here the idea is about to give voice to the poor people, give a chance to the poor people so that they can rise their voice. It is all about the identity. Saleem faces this kind of problem when he and his family come to know that he is not the real son of Mr. and Mrs. Sinai. That is why Saleem says that “I have many families and no families”. So, we can say that the character of Saleem is the victim of post colonialism. Though he has the power to call all the mid-night’s children at some extent he is suppressed because he is belonging from the lower class. While writing Rushdie also uses magic-realism trick which gives us aesthetic delight while watching the movie.



So, if we tries to look from post-colonial view then we will find that these both the movies are best examples of it. At some extent the protagonist of both movies were suppressed by the authority.


2)  The Reluctant Fundamentalist:-


                 The Second movie is The Reluctant Fundamentalist (2012) by Mira Nair. She  is an Indian filmmaker and actress based in New York.She made films based on novels.
              

                                  

                      She also made one movie named The Namesake. This movie The Namesake is based on one novel written by Jhumpa Lahiri under the same title The Namesake (2004). This film is released in 2006. This film is also very good and she given appropriate justice to this film also.

              If we talk about The Reluctant Fundamentalist this film is similar to the movie called  New York (film) released in 2009. In New York movie hero's motif is to take revenge and here in this movie we can say that hero's motif is good to forgive everyone.
                          The movie is ‘The Reluctant Fundamentalist’. The name itself suggests the conflict. The story is about Changez khan who is coming from the elite Pakistani family. He goes to America for degree. He has a dream, an American dream to be a successful businessman. When he was about to it the 9/11 attack happened. After that incident everybody’s point of view towards Changez Khan changed. Even his colleges looked at him differently. His physical appearance gives a kind of threat upon the people around him. Here we can apply post colonialism that how the youngsters coming from the third world countries are not given the same chance in the first world countries, and how quickly they changes their point of view towards an innocent person. Throughout the movie Changez Khan was thinking that “America gives equal chance to everybody and this is the country of freedom” but at the end he changes his point of view. This line itself suggests the colonizer’s power. Changez Khan is a talented young man and that is why he gets many offers from many parties but he kept himself aloof and so at the end he gets nothing.
