I.A. Richards’s A Figurative Language.

As we studied I.A. Richards’s A Figurative Language, I apply this theory on  two Bollywood songs

Lyrics: Amitabh Bhattacharya
Music: Pritam
Singers: Rekha Bharadwaj, Tochi Raina

Kaisee teri khudgarzee,
Na dhoop chute na chhaanv,
Kaisee teri khudgarzee,
Kisi thaur tike na paav.
Ban liya apnaa paighambar,
Tar liya tu saat samandar,
Phir bhi sookhaa mann ke andar,
Kyoon reh gaya…
Re Kabira maan jaa,
Re Fakeera maan jaa,
Aa jaa tujh ko pukaaray teri parchhaaiyaan…
Re Kabira maan jaa.
Re Fakeera maan jaa,
Kaisa tu hai nirmohi kaisaa harjaiyaa…
Tooti chaarpaai wo hi,
Thandi purvaai rastaa dekhe,
Doodhon ki malaayi wohi,
Mitti ki suraahee rastaa dekhe…
Kaisi teri khudgarzi,
Lab namak rame naa misree,
Kaisi teri khudgarzi,
Tujhe preet purani bisri…
Mast Maula, Mast kalandar,
Tu hawa kaa ek bavandar,
Bujh ke yoon andar hi andar
Kyun reh gaya..
Re Kabira maan jaa,
Re Fakeera maan jaa,
Aa jaa tujh ko pukaaray teri parchhaaiyaan…
Re Kabira maan jaa.
Re Fakeera maan jaa,
Kaisa tu hai nirmohi kaisaa harjaiyaa

This is song of movie Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. The song is not just good with music , but the lyrics of the song are superb as well. This song is one of the popular song of the movie Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. Phrases like 'tujh ko pukaaray teri parchhaaiyaan', references to the protagnist as 'nirmohee' and 'purvaai' is just perfect.
Kabira is one of the best songs of Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. Amitabh Bhattacharya has tried to do away with cliches 'mitti ki sondhi khushboo' for a village and talks about the broken cot and milk cream , which are even more down to earth and true to village culture.Let's see this song from I.A.Richard's theory.

Kaisee teri khudgarzee,
Na dhoop chune na chhaanv,
Kaisee teri khudgarzee,
Kisi thaur tike na paav.
This stanza is talking that what is this selfishness of yours, that chooses neither the Sun nor the shade, what is this selfishness of yours, that your feet never stop moving.
Ban liya apnaa paighambar,
Tar liya tu saat samandar,
Phir bhi sookhaa mann ke andar,
Kyoon reh gaya…
This stanza about you became your own god, traveled over the seven seas Still, the thirst in your soul, why does it remain.
Re Kabira maan jaa,
Re Fakeera maan jaa,
Aa jaa tujh ko pukaaray teri parchhaaiyaan…
Re Kabira maan jaa.
Re Fakeera maan jaa,
Kaisa tu hai nirmohi kaisaa harjaiyaa…
The  stanza is about o Kabira, listen to me, o Saint, believe me, come, your shadows are calling you o Kabira, listen to me,o Saint, believe me how can you be so unattached and heartless.
Tooti chaarpaai wo hi,
Thandi purvaai rastaa dekhe,
Doodhon ki malaayi wohi,
Mitti ki suraahee rastaa dekhe…
This stanza is talking about that broken cot, that cool breeze, waits for you, That cream of milk, and the earthen pot of cold water waits for you.
Kaisi teri khudgarzi,
Lab namak rame naa misree,
Kaisi teri khudgarzi,
Tujhe preet purani bisri…
Mast Maula, Mast kalandar,
Tu hawa kaa ek bavandar,
Bujh ke yoon andar hi andar
Kyun reh gaya..
This stanza is talking about what is this selfishness of yours, neither salt nor sweetness suit on your tongue what is this selfishness of yours, that you have forgotten old love a free man, a free spirit, a stormy of wind, that drowns within you, why does it remain.
Re Kabira maan jaa,
Re Fakeera maan jaa,
Aa jaa tujh ko pukaaray teri parchhaaiyaan…
Re Kabira maan jaa.
Re Fakeera maan jaa,
Kaisa tu hai nirmohi kaisaa harjaiyaa…
Kabira song is a the most popular lyric song this movie.
