Myth, Fiction and Displacement.

Myth, Fiction and Displacement
                                  - Northrop Frye

Introduction:-

Myth is a concept which runs through many areas of contemporary thought like Psychological, Sociology,Religion ,Anthropology and several others. Such an explanation must begin with the question “ Why did the term even get ion to literary criticism?”. There can be only one answer to this question and the answer of myth is always been an important element of literature .The interest of poets in myth and Anthropology having been remarkable and constant since homer’s time.

Two Division of Literary Work:-

There  are two division of a literary works.
1) Fiction
2)  Thematic

1) Fiction :- The formal works of literature with internal character and includes novel, plays, poetry , folk tales a and every things that tells a story.
2) Thematic:- In Thematic literature the author and reader are the only character involved.

This division includes lyrics, essay, poetry and oratory .Each division has its own type of myth but here,we shall concerned only with fictional part of fictional part of literature.
The power of continuity keeps us turning the pages of novel and holds us in our seats at the Theatre .The continuity may be logical or psychological. The Theme may be identity of the murderer in a detective story, the first sexual acts, horrible in romance, etc.
In Continuity of work everyone, every image, even every sounds is making its timing contribution to the total movement.
Plot and Narration:-
In ordinary English the word plot means sequence of events. It includes the total movement  of sound and image. On the other hand the word “Narrative” seems more natural then plot. .Both words translate Aristotle’s “Mythos”.
The plot  is like the tree and houses that we are focus over eyes on though window and the narrative is like the stone that rush by the ground Aristotle says that…
“ The Plot is life and Soul of Tragedy”.
The plot is the imitation of action and character exist as function of the plot according to the novel of scott a summary of plot has much the same effect on the a here as a summary of ‘ ‘last night dream’

Theme:-
Now in the conception of theme there are number of elements and one of them is subject. The subject of ‘ Hamlet’ is hamlet’s element to revenge on an uncle who has married his  father and married his mother  but overview of movie hamlet began with the statement.
“ This is the story of a man who could not make up his mind”.
Here is a quite different thing. It is impossible to say how extensive the change in details. Chaucer’s “Pardoner’s Tale”  is a folk tale that started in India where Rudyard Kipling picked it upland put n the second jungle book but everything is different like setting , details, method , treatment etc. Yet, I think any reader would say that it was the same story as theme.

Tragic and comic plot:-
Comedy has a ‘ U ’ shaped plot with the actin sinking in a deep and tragic events and suddenly turning upward s in to happy ending on the other hand tragedy has inverted ‘ U ’ with the action rising in happiness an then talking you downward to tragic series.
Recognition:-
Recognition is often identity by some object.fans, rings, chains and some other standard props of comedy are used as a mark of identity such an emblem has to do with the identification a chief character birth mark, scar ,tattoo etc. where used in Greek romance we have infants of noble and found out on hillside with birth token besides them. They are found by shepherd or farmer and brought up in lower life and the birth token’s are produced when the story has gone long enough and through.
In any case the point of recognition seems to be a point of identification where a hidden truth about something or somebody come out.Besides the embled the hero may discover who  his parents and children are.
 Folk Tales:-
Folk tales tell us nothing credible about the life or manners of any society. They do not even care whether their characters are man, ghost or animal folk tales are simply different story,Pattern, uncomplicated and easy to remember .They do not any berries of language and culture.
But it is seldom explained even the greatest writer are interested in such tales why Shakespeare put a folk see clearly in the folk tale in clearly popular fiction.
 Fiction:-
What we see clearly , the folk tales we see less clearly the popular fiction such story are looser for more flexible than the classical novels. In  such works two aspects which we have defined as a [plot and theme are very closed together .We often feel that there would be no point in reading it a second time. The best example of it is R.S.Stevenson “ The Body Snatcher.”

In reading fiction there are two kind of recogantion.
1) One of continuous recognition of credibility fidelity and experience.

 Myth:-
According to Northrop Frey myth means a certain type of story .It is a story in which some of chief character are gods  or other begins larger than power in humanity. Its action takes place in the world above or prior to ordinary times. So  like folk tales it is an different story pattern  .The character can do what they like then things that happen in myth are things that only happen in stories. They are in a different literary world so myth would naturally have the same kind of attraction for the fiction writer that folktales have it present him a ready made frame work.In this way the use of myth in ‘ Joyce’ like the use of folktales in ‘ Mann’ its narrates to the use of design in contemporary  works.

The difference between Myth and Folk Tales:-
The difference between Myth and folktales have their own importance in comparison with folk tales , myths are usually in a special catageroy of seriousness. They are believed to have really happened on the other hand folktales are imply interchange the thought s myth show an old tendency to steel together and build up bigger structures.
As  type of story myth is a from of verbal art and belongs to the world of arts and unlike signs it deals not with the world that man thinks but with the world that man creates.
Myths uses two great principles and that are…

1) On the other hand, the identity refers ‘ Sun gods’  OR ‘ Tree gods’ myth relates with the human cycle of life , death and rebirth.
2)  Analogy and identity analogy establishes the parallel between human life and human character.

Myth may be told and retold .It may be modified or elaborated or different pattern may be discover in it and its life is always the poetic life of story.

Myth in literature or Relation between Mythology and literature:-

Myth provides the human outline of a verbal universe which is later occupied by literature as well literature is more flexible than myth literature fills up the universe more complete than myth but in all culture mythology merge in to and with literature .Educators are now aware that any effective teaching of literature has to summaries its history and begin with myth’ s folk tales and legends.
Therefore we should expert that there may be great many literary works derived directly from the specific myth like the poems by Dryden and Keats about ‘ Endymion’ which are derived directly from the myth of ‘ Endymion’.
